You may have heard the saying, “practice what you preach”. This is a thought that is emphasized in the book of First John. What are some ways we can show that we practice what we preach? What does the Bible say?

If you SAY that you know God, then keep His commandments. “He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” (1 John 2:4)

If you SAY you abide in Jesus, then live like Him. “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” (1 John 2:6)

If you SAY you are in the light, then love your brother. “He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.” (1 John 2:9)

If you SAY you love God, then do not hate your brother. “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?” (1 John 4:20)
