Useless Religion
It is sad that a person can think they are pleasing to God, to find at the judgment that their religion is vain. Jesus said in Matthew 7:21, “Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven”. What does the Bible say about serving God in vain?
- James 1:26 “If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.” If our words are out of control, our service to God is vain.
- 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain.” We must continue in the word, otherwise we believed in vain.
- Matthew 15:9 “And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” Polluting the word of God with our own ideas will make our efforts to please God of no use.
